A family photoshoot in Monopoli: sea water, ice cream and the beauty of real moments 🥹

Some family sessions are perfectly planned. And some become unforgettable because life simply happens.

Last summer, I met Nina, her husband, their little two-year-old boy and their dog for a sunset family photoshoot in Monopoli. From the very first moment, everything felt easy: no pressure, no stiff poses, just a family ready to enjoy an afternoon together while I quietly documented it.

We walked through the small streets of Monopoli, stopping whenever something felt beautiful: tiny corners with warm light, old doors, the sea in the background, their son running freely from one place to another with endless energy and curiosity.

And then came the wave.

We were near the coast taking photos by the water when suddenly a huge wave hit us completely unexpectedly. In seconds, we were absolutely soaked. Everyone started laughing — parents, child, me — and instead of ruining the moment, it became one of the best parts of the session. Their son thought it was the funniest thing in the world!.

That’s usually when the most meaningful photos happen: not when everything is perfect, but when people stop trying to control the moment and simply live it together.

Afterwards, like every proper Italian summer evening should end, the little one got an ice cream. Most of it ended up on his clothes, naturally. His outfit was completely destroyed by the end of the session, and his parents couldn’t have been happier.

Because years from now, they probably won’t remember whether the clothes stayed clean or the hair stayed perfect.

They’ll remember how it felt.

The warm air of southern Italy.

The sound of the sea.

Their child laughing with melted ice cream on his face.

Walking through Monopoli together at sunset.

Being fully present with each other.

That is what I want Photos in Puglia to be about.

Not perfect poses.

Not forced smiles.

But honest memories that feel alive every time you look at them again.

After the session, Nina sent me the sweetest words:

“The photos are beautiful and such a special memory for us. We come to Puglia every year and already know that next year we want another photoshoot with Malvi again.” 💛

And honestly, there is nothing more beautiful for me than becoming part of a family’s memories in this little corner of Italy.
